High assurance onboarding is necessary for us to reach the Digital ID age. Identifying someone for bank accounts, scooter rental, social profiles, rentals, and government services is huge business. We ask people to selfie-register multiple times. Why? How does this process fail the end user, send them away frustrated, and still permit rampant fraud? Let’s examine the line-by-line shortcomings of selfie-registration (a/k/a IDV, onboarding, mKYC) so that we can begin to fix it.
